A Microchip that has not been registered or updated with correct contact information
is WORTHLESS!!! We can't stress this enough! When your pet becomes lost and then found, animal control or a vet will automatically scan that animal for a microchip. The chip reader shows the unique identification number implanted in your pet and manufacturer of the chip. No personal information is shown. Next, the manufacturer is called (Home Again, Avid, 24 PetWatch, etc), and given the ID number and they contact
you directly. This all happens in a matter of minutes so you can get our pet back home ASAP! BUT, if your pets microchip is unregistered, you will never get a call that your animal has been found!
In some instances, the manufacturer can tell who was sold the chip (rescue, shelter, pet store), but that's all. The same goes if your contact information is out of date - they can't contact you! Fluffy ends up in
the shelter indefinitely, is adopted to someone else or worse, euthanized. It is IMPERATIVE you contact your microchip company and keep this information current.
There may be a small charge to update their database, but the cost is inconsequential
